Virgin Atlantic plans to resume flights between London and Johannesburg

British airline, Virgin Atlantic  is set to relaunch  operations between Heathrow Airport, London and OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.

According to a report by Tourism Update, the resumption will be effective from September 15, 2020.

Head of Middle East, Africa and India Virgin Atlantic Airways, Liezl Gericke, expressed that this date is dependent on the relevant government approval, Tourism Update added.

“Our intention is to gradually reintroduce flights,” said Gericke.

“We are already servicing cargo flights four times a week out of Johannesburg and plan to initially introduce passenger services three times a week with the same overnight schedule that we operated prior to lockdown.”

 Gericke added that the airline wants to slowly ramp this back up to a daily schedule, subject to demand.

“We will be operating a brand-new A350-1000 aircraft on the route,” she said.

The airline is also set to relaunch a daily service between Heathrow Airport in London and  Cape Town International Airport, Cape Town  from October 25, 2020.
