Qatar to continue taking stranded South Africans home

The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Pretoria has confirmed the continuation of operating Qatar Airways Relief Charter Flights between Hamad International Airport in Doha and OR Tambo International Airport Johannesburg.

According to a statement by the Embassy, this process, which began on May 5, 2020 and running till June 2, 2020 is a collaborative effort of the Embassy, the Department of International Relations and Corporation of South Africa (DIRCO) and the Qatar and Qatar Airways relevant authorities to repatriate stranded South Africans stranded abroad and repatriating foreign national in South Africa, via Doha to their respective countries.

The embassy added that Qatar Airways office in South Africa will provide the respective embassies with combined booking lists of their citizens and the embassies shall send those lists with formal requests to the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Pretoria at pretoria@mofa.gov.qa.

“Six inbound and outbound flights were achieved so far, where hundreds of South Africans could return and hundreds of foreigners could depart to reach their homes in their respective countries,” read the statement.

“Eight more flights are scheduled on 20th, 24th, 28th of May and second of June.”

Passengers willing to return home from South Africa will be expected to meet in-front of the Embassy’s location, four hours before departure where Qatar Airways would provide buses to OR Tambo Airport.
