After winning design and sustainability awards respectively, the Kogelberg Nature Reserve has joined hands with the Craft and Design Institute (CDI) to in its next phase of the interior décor of its units, the governmental organisation responsible for maintaining wilderness areas and public nature reserves in the Western Cape Province, CapeNature has announced.
Kogelberg Nature Reserve forms part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, the first biosphere reserve in South Africa and is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, forming part of the Cape Floristic Kingdom.
CapeNature expressed that it had been looking for a unique, stylish and South African edge to the Reserve’s new units and the CDI, with its large database of talented local manufacturers, was the perfect fit to realise this ambition.
“Kogelberg Nature Reserve has always been one of our flagship locations and we are excited at the prospect of being able to take this tourism offering to the next level by elevating it through this exciting partnership with the CDI,” said CapeNature CEO, Dr. Razeena Omar.
Omar added that the partnership with CDI was a step in a new direction through sustainable and economical tourism partnerships.
Commenting on the partnership, CDI Group CEO, Erica Elk added that the partnership with CapeNature was a very important opportunity which was not only a great sales opportunity for the producers whose products they have bought for furnishing but also a way of creating fabulous places for those planning to come and stay in the Reserve.
“One of the most important things we do is create access to markets and expand market opportunities for our members. We believe the domestic market in South Africa has huge potential,” said Elk.
Under the collaboration, nine new units have already been added to the Reserve.
