One of Namibia’s annual biggest festivals which positions the coastal town of Lüderitz as a major tourism and investment destination, the Lüderitz Crayfish Festival, has been postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press statement, Lüderitz mayor and chairperson of the festival committee, Brigitte Fredericks stated that said the decision to cancel this year’s festival was in full compliance with the state of emergency regulations of Namibia.
“As organisers of this popular annual event attended by huge crowds, we have to play our part in the fight against COVID-19. It is for this reason that it was decided to call off this year’s festival,” said Fredericks.
The Festival, hosted annually by the Lüderitz Town Council was scheduled to take place from April 30 to May 4, 2020 under the theme ‘Igniting Hope’.
“The festival board of trustees and the management committee sincerely thank all sponsors for their continued support. We assure all sponsors and stakeholders that the 2021 annual festival will be bigger and better,” added Fredericks.
