Kenya intends to focus more on domestic and regional tourism for two years to speed up the sector’s revival from the depression caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an opinion piece published in Nairobi’s Standard Newspaper, Kenyan Cabinet Tourism Secretary, Najib Balala said tourism was the country’s third biggest foreign currency earner, after remittances and agricultural exporters.

“We need not be dependent on international tourism and must start investing heavily in the domestic and regional market,” expressed Balala.

He added that African nations had to unite and form a federation to promote tourism within the continent and ease visa restrictions.
