Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of Kenya, has pleaded with Ethiopian Airlines To Suspend Flights From China to reduce the Coronavirus transmission risk on Africa and Kenya in particular.
Ethiopian Airlines has continued to fly to and from China despite mounting pressure from African governments. The President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta has pleaded with the airline to consider halting direct flights to China.
“We are operating our regular flights to all of our five gateways in China, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong with the usual supply and demand adjustment ” The airliner said in a press statement released a few days ago
Speaking at The Atlantic Council in Washington, DC on Wednesday, Uhuru yesterday expressed his fears about the continued flights by the airline.
“Our worry as a country is not that China cannot manage the disease. Our biggest worry is diseases coming into areas with weaker health systems like ours”
Coronavirus has been spreading across the world although concentrated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Japan reported 10 more infections among passengers aboard a luxury cruise liner quarantined outside Yokohama. The death toll as of today stands at 563 with 28,018 confirmed cases.
Most airlines including Rwandair have suspended flights to China as they monitor the efforts to contain the spread of the deadly infection.
