A Zimbabwean man has been silently building a mile long stone wall around his homestead oblivious of the massive feat that he is accomplishing. The man, Elphas Mahwamure a villager in Masvingo’s Tokwane-Ngundu Resettlement Area has been building this wall so he can rear his pigs and turkeys in a secure area.
From the video, a humble Elphas speaks of his intentions while the person capturing the moment can’t hep but marvel at the sheer hard work evident at the place.
Zimbabwe is renowned for its mortarless structures including the very structure which the country derives its name from – the Great Zimbabwe monument. There are other places like Khami, Nalatale and Danan’ombe (Dhlo dhlo) ruins. There are other smaller stone enclaves dotted across the country.
A few people were moved by Elphas’ ingenuity and resourcefulness even in the face of the challenges that the county of Zimbabwe is facing. A few of them have pledged to help him.
